My fiancé is an advent news reader. In fact, I call him the news reader. I don't have to watch it. I get all that I need to know from him and I noticed that he is deeply affected by it in so much as he reacts negatively to many things where as I take things in stride. I've asked him to go one week without reading the news and he has a hard time doing so. He feeds on the negativity, yet he doesn't understand where his temper comes from.

Then I had my mom while growing up, who after every assault or rape or some terrible thing, would caution me to not live life because of fear of the unknown. Lots of these terrible things do not happen anywhere near us, yet some people are so affected by it.

Then, to not be affected by it, you are often labeled cold hearted.

In essence, there is no win-win when it comes to being informed because watching the news is not informed. It's calculated fear and propaganda that is meant to keep us working and complacent with our lot in life.

Yes, men can know what there passion is and still be cool! I live with a man that talks about his passions everyday and he's talking is becoming a reality.

Men are taught to be strong and women learn that to emotional is ok. My take: Strong men and women know how to control their emotions.

Hello Marc,
I definitely recommend this sort of sanity check. Whenever I go to a trade show or conference, I go in with this mindset. If I let everyone PUSH their news or company pitches at me, I would be out of my mind. Instead, I find out what people are interested in reading and hearing more about and I structure my interviews around those topics. Much better approach to gathering information.

I personally believe that you can not motivate someone who is not naturally motivated. We can encourage people to take little steps all day long and it won't do any good unless the individual buys into their own sense of urgency or change. It takes a at least 3 weeks to develop a habit. Sometimes more depending on the individual.

I've already taken my little steps and I am now ready to take 1-2 giant leaps forward. I'm game, what's next?

AP,
Fear controls most of our thoughts but doesn't need to. Action is needed and results shown, yet sometimes we are doing something that is "unknown" to us and we go back to our old ways. Why not take little steps and show yourself that you can make it happen today?
